Our Tutors
At The Tutoring Spot we have a number of talented and passionate tutors, who understand that children often need individual attention to help them live up to their potential. All of our tutors are carefully screened experts and include certified teachers, college professors, graduate students, select undergraduates from accredited universities and other professionals.
Our tutors are trained to address all different kinds of learning styles for all different types of students. We require our instructors to be great improvisers, observing their students’ progress as they go and making adjustments to the prep-plan when necessary.

Jennifer Hamm
Jennifer Ham is a high school English teacher. She loves sharing her passion for literature and writing with young people. Growing up in Lake Tahoe has inspired Jennifer to explore the mountains through hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and snowboarding. She has experience helping students write their college acceptance essays and preparing for the SAT and AP English exams. Jennifer can work with students to motivate and inspire them with their writing. No matter what your struggle, research papers, critical analysis essays or descriptive papers Jennifer is always here to comfort your writing woes!
Daphne Abrams
Daphne Abrams is a middle school Science and Math teacher. She has experience teaching all levels of middle school and high school Science. In spring of 2008, she received a Masters of Education from Bank Street College of Education. Daphne has several years of tutoring experience in Math and Science for middle schoolers and high schoolers alsol. She is enthusiastic, loves being outdoors, and is very patient!
Kaitlyn Denzler
Kaitlyn Denzler is a senior at the University of Nevada, Reno and will be graduating this coming December with a major in Anthropology and a minor in Foreign Affairs. She hopes to continue her studies by working towards a Masters in Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies. Kaitlyn has a background in liberal arts and because of this her specialties in terms of tutoring include the following: reading and writing, writing essays, history/humanities, elementary math and science.Kaitlyn has spent a large portion of her life traveling and she has enjoyed every single minute of it! The most recent place she visited was India and the next place on her list is Brazil for Carnival. Kaitlyn has a passion for teaching and she loves working with students.
Derek K. Niegemann
Derek has been teaching for over 25 years. His strengths include all forms of English and literature classes at both middle and high school levels. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Elizabethan Literature and Theatre, and Master of Arts in Theatre Arts Management. European studies through Mountview Theatre School, London, England and University of Munich, Munich Germany. Regional theatre work for more than 40 years with over half of that as an Acting Coach and English Teacher. A Professional Child Actor from 1966-74 with stage, film and television work in the 1970s and 1980s. 1977-87 Set Dresser and Production Assistant with MGM Grunwald Studios, Munich, Germany. 1983-88 Artistic Director for the Augsburg Community Theatre, an English speaking theatre in Augsburg, Germany. 1996-2000 Resident Actor, Director and Props Master with Repertory theatres in both Ohio and California. Derek is the current Vice President of Theatreworks of Northern Nevada.
Amber Hoobyar
I love to teach children and watch them learn. I am currently working toward my dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. I also teach martial arts with a local school. As a resident of Reno my entire life I love to watch children learn and see the spark in their eye when something clicks. I enjoy sports and played soccer all four years of high school. I enjoy reading, history, kids and doing anything active.
Sandra Linares
I am a UNR graduate student who is majoring in Accounting. I enjoy teaching many subjects, but especially mathematics and would very much love to work with your children to help them gain a better understanding of the concepts involved. I enjoy many outdoor activities, like rafting down the Truckee River, boating, camping and horseback riding. Looking forward to working with you!
